EVENT: 2021 Parks Challenge
SITE: Various Oakland parks
DATES OF EVENT: June 21, 2021 – July 11, 2021

BY PARTICIPATING IN THE 2021 PARKS CHALLENGE (the “Event”), I (the “Participant”) , for myself, my heirs, successors and assigns, and all persons claiming through them (“Releasing Parties”), RELEASE AND HOLD HARMLESS the Oakland Parks and Recreation Foundation, and each of its departments, directors, officers, employees, volunteers, agents, successors and assigns (“Released Parties”) from any causes of action, suits, liabilities, claims, losses, costs, expenses and demands (including reasonable attorneys fees and court costs) which the Releasing Parties may have or which may accrue, whether caused wholly or in part by the simple negligence, fault or other misconduct, other than intentional or grossly negligent conduct, of the Released Parties with respect to: (1) any bodily injury, personal injury, illness, death or property damage which arises or may hereafter arise from or in any way related to my participation in the Event. I KNOWINGLY ASSUME THE RISK of injury, harm and loss associated with the Event. I understand the Released Parties do not assume any responsibility for or obligation to provide any assistance, including but not limited to: medical, health or disability insurance. I grant the Released Parties the royalty-free right, title and interest in any and all photographs and video or audio recordings made during the Event (the “Media”), including but not limited to, the right to use, modify, archive, publish, reproduce, and/or distribute such Media for any purpose, and hereby waive any right to inspect or approve the Media. I certify that I am at least 18 years of age. With regard to any individual less than 18 years of age (“Minor Participant”) under my supervision, I, the parent or legal guardian of the Minor Participant (the “Guardian”), agree to the terms of this Release with respect to the Minor Participant, and consent to the Minor Participant’s participation in the Event.

Rules

Terms of Service: Participants must accept the 2021 Parks Challenge Terms of Service.

Park Rules: Participants must abide by posted park rules when completing missions.

Minor Participants: Participants must be at least 18 years of age to register for the 2021 Parks Challenge. Minor Participants less than 18 years of age may participate under the supervision of a Guardian.

Prizes: The Oakland Parks and Recreation Foundation will post a time and location to pick up all prizes at the conclusion of the 2021 Parks Challenge. Unclaimed prizes will be forfeited.

Mind Your Surroundings: Participants act at their own risk and must put safety first. Be mindful of motorists and pedestrians, watch children closely, observe common sense safety precautions and do not become distracted by your smartphone while completing missions.

Prizes

Participants in the 2021 Parks Challenge are eligible to win the following prizes:

• Ten (10) 1st Prizes: Park Kit including a Jumbo Park Bag, Picnic Blanket and Water Bottle.
• Twenty Five (25) 2nd Prizes: Nature Journal.
• Fifty (50) 3rd Prizes: Knit Beanie Hat.
• Twenty Five (25) Family Prizes: Quechua Youth Backpack.
• Quantity To Be Determined – Mini Game Prizes: Signed Sports Memorabilia and Select Clothing Items.
• All Participants – Oakland Parks Poster.

Winning Participants will be notified at the conclusion of the 2021 Parks Challenge. Prizes are subject to change and availability.

Is everything free? YES! The Oakland Parks and Recreation Foundation is partnering with The Trust for Public Land to make the 2021 Parks Challenge totally free and open to anyone to join.

What COVID-19 precautions should I take?

• Do not go out if you or members of your household are self-quarantining or do not feel well. Know the symptoms.
• Wear a facemask.
• Stay at least six feet from others. All missions are outdoors and can be accomplished by maintaining a safe distance.
• Avoid gathering with people outside of your household. Please make sure that the team you assemble are cohabiting family / friends or a part of your trusted social “pod.”
• Wash or sanitize hands before and after using play equipment. All equipment is for “use at your own risk.”
• Use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol or wash your hands for at least 20 seconds.

Is this kid friendly? Yes! Most missions are possible for children ages 6+. Please keep an eye on your children at all times, especially in areas with high traffic or natural areas with challenging terrain.

Can I do the missions from home? Most missions will need to be completed outdoors. However, there will be some pop-up missions posted during the Parks Challenge that you will be able to accomplish from home. 

Do I need to do the missions in the order they appear in the app? No, you do not need to follow the exact order.

Do we have to do every single mission? No! This is what you want to make of it! Complete the missions at your own convenience.
