Do You Love Oakland Parks?Oakland Parks Coalition invites you to follow your heart and Become a Park StewardA Park Steward is a volunteer activist who works with appropriate city agencies (primarily the Department of Parks and Recreation) to monitor the well-being of city park resources and to ensure that the city responds in a timely and effective manner when a problem arises. A Park Steward • Fills out the 10 point OPC survey 2-3 times a year to evaluate the condition of the park. To see the survey click here. • Checks up on the park on a regular basis and report any problems. About The Oakland Parks Coalition (OPC)OPC is a city-wide association of community members and agencies working to implement standards of excellence for the maintenance and programming of our parks, recreation centers and medians.
Goals1. Park Stewardship Action Plan
OPC is working to
engage and empower communities to share in park stewardship
by identifying and training community “Park Stewards” for each city park and
selected medians. The Stewardship program hopes to inspire residents
to actively care for their city parks, thereby protecting and enhancing
Oakland’s park system.
2. Advocacy: 3. Standards: Establish new standards for park maintenance and recreation programs. Hold the City accountable for upholding these standards. 4. OPC Membership: Develop city-wide membership in OPC that is representative of all ages, cultures, races, user groups. 5. Partnerships: Encourage communication and partnerships between community, public agencies and private organizations. |
