Oakland City Stables

Who We Are
Oakland City Stables is nestled in the trees in the Oakland hills. The property overlooks Oakland, San Leandro and the San Francisco Bay. It covers 7 acres which include a covered and an open arena, horse boarding facilities, and access to Regional Park trails. Oakland City Stables was originally part of the Peralta Land grant (Rancho San Antonio). It was owned and managed by the Shriners and then by private owners until the City of Oakland purchased the property in 1991 with Measure K funds. Since then, the City has improved the property by upgrading the arena, paving the road, installing a water line and fire hydrant, upgrading the electrical system and building a restroom/snack stand.

Oakland City Stables Advisory Council has established a 501(c)(3) fund, affiliated with Friends of Oakland Parks and Recreation, to improve, support and maintain Oakland City Stables.

The Oakland City Stables Advisory Council consists of boarders, neighbors, volunteers, riding instructors, a Park and Recreation Advisory Commissioner, and interested Oakland citizens. The Advisory Council members volunteer their time and energy and share a common interest in promoting and improving the City Stables and its programs. The Advisory Council's role is three-fold: 1) Advising the City Stables Concessionaire on how to best serve the needs of the community through the programs being offered at the Facility, making recommendations on improving the facility, and setting annual goals for the Advisory Council; 2) Assisting in volunteering to support programs and scholarships at the City Stables: and 3) Representing the facility/programs and OPR at designated community functions, representing the interests of the community and attending meetings of the Advisory Council. The City of Oakland Parks and Recreation Department manages the Oakland City Stables.
